The Telltale Horse A Novel Rita Mae Brown Books

Although there are times when I find Sister Jane doing too much serminizing, I still love all the kinds of love the books reveal. I have to come to love so many of the characters of the stories, that I wait eagerly for the next book and then have to start at the beginning and reread every Sister Jane again. Keep them coming, Rita Mae Brown!

The Telltale Horse A Novel Rita Mae Brown Books Reviews

Sister Jane and her friends just keep riding (often in very bad weather) and getting mixed up in all kinds of funny situations. The foxes, dogs, horses and birds have much to say about their humans and the mysteries occurring around them. As usual a real fun read.
My family loves Ms. Brown and I re-read her books regularly. Her characters are always true to life and I always learn something about horses, foxes and humans too. I side with the dogs and cats when I say they are more important than the humans but the humans behavior is enlightening as well. Sister Jane's corner of Virginia sounds like a perfect place to be.
The continuity in this book as well as "The Hunt Ball" with the rest of the series was awful! Nola, who was the younger daugher in "Hotspur" became the older daugher in later books. Gray went from being a retired tax attorney to "retired from the most prestigious D.C. accounting firm".

I really enjoy the characters, especially Jane Arnold who is not that many years older that I, but the continuity thing really bothers me. This ranks right up there with bad grammer and being rude as unacceptable.
Beihg a horse person, I avidly read all of Rita Mae Brown's "sister jane" books. While this story is somewhat engaging, I felt the editing and sentence structure were terrible. Every sentence was full of fragments, strung together by an over abundance of commas. Made for a disjointed read. Here's a sample "Ilona Merriman, hairnet in place, derby correctly placed on her head - which is to say, straight across the brow -rode up to Sister, reined in Tom Tiger, her handy small Thoroughbred, gave a pregnant pause, and then tattled." Almost every sentence is structured this way. Found it very distracting from the storyline.
I like all books by Rita Mae Brown, I always learn something. The characters are believable, and
you don't want to but the book down always a little twist.
The Rita Mae Brown Fox Hunting Series books are excellent. They are written at times through the view of the various animals in the stories, which is cool. The books are accurate to the sport of Fox Hunting and include intriguing characters.
As a retired Fox Hunter, Browns books resonate with me. The excitement of the hounds finding the scent of the Fox and off you go. Brown knows her subject well and you don't want to put her books down. Marvelous. I would recommend her books to those who have never ridden, too.
