This is my go to book whenever I need a pick me up, or just because.

One of the best parts of this book is the MC's friendships. Rory constantly moves from state to state, and finding new friends isn't easy, but she struck gold here. Plus, her fights with Chase are epically funny.

There are numerous other fairy tale books out there set in the modern world. None of them are anywhere near as good as the characters, magic, and plot that you'll find in this series. Each book has a unique plot. While the fairy tales are based on the classics, only the basics are similar, but they all end up being fantastically different. Don't expect any boring retellings here.

I highly recommend this entire series for everyone. I've enjoyed it each time I've re-read it.

My 10 year old daughter read this, all at once and glued to the page, and as soon as she was done asked, "Can we get the next one?" (Sadly, it looks like it won't be out till next July.) So I took a look to see what had so enthralled her, and found myself caught up -- and now I'm anxious for the next book too! Her older brother who normally reads YA fantasy and that sort of thing zipped through it as well.

It's a compelling world that the author creates, the kind that makes you want to go visit just to hang around and absorb the atmosphere. And the plot moves briskly along, with a good mix between the social-getting-used-to-the-school parts and the action parts. It's age-appropriate -- scary but not too dark, and not overly complex, and the social focus is on friendship rather than romance. In many ways, the tone reminded me of the first Harry Potter book. I would highly recommend this for kids in the 8-12 year old range, as well as their parents.
*SPOILER ALERT*Amazing amazing amazing!!!! Seriously this book is AMAZING!!! I love the new twist in fractured fairy tales. All the characters are so relate able especially Rory. Also I love how the author makes the bad guys not totally bad, and I love how she included some of the less popular fairy tales. And one more thing. Chase? Is...Unique he's the type of character I love and can't find very often. Complete and totally AWESOME!!!!! Shelby if your reading this, I NEED MORE!!! I've read the rest of the series too, And the ending is PERFECT!!!
I really loved this book.

The characters were described well and the pacing and development was spot on. The plot was enticing and wrapped you up instantly.

As for Rory, she's definitely a main character worth reading about. Her family problems, despite being celebrities, are relatable and you can't help but wonder what will happen in the next book. Rory is one of the most realistic characters I've read in the past year and I fell in love with her at page one. Her problems are real and you just FEEL for her; even going so far as to putting yourself in her shoes.

I just got to say, her friend Lena and semi-friend Chase LOVE THEM. They're just the best people anyone can have on a quest as well as the best friends a girl can have.

Anyone, I recommend this book to girls AND boys. It's enjoyable and everyone will love it. I can't wait to see where the author goes with this.
Picked this up at the library one day and bought it years later. Couldn't get it out of my mine, that's how awesome it is! Three kids, Rory, Lena, and Chase join together in an after-school program that transcends space and time to allow the whole world to come together. Join fairies, giants, dragons, etc as the three must learn to get along, fight the bad guys, and grow as individuals. Excellent role models as there is no bad language. You have your usual pointless parent, so common in middle grade, but other than that, the characters are well fleshed and logical.
Rory is the daughter of an A-list actor who moves around a lot. (good thing the program transcends the space-time barrier, huh?). She meets up with Lena from across the country who has a pretty awesome family. Then there's Chase. Oh my gumdrops! I love Chase. No seriously. I have like a book crush on him. He is so much fun, and only gets funner (yes that's a word) as the series progresses. Buy the book-you'll love it!
