Don't Let Go eBook Sharla Lovelace

I have no clue why I waited a whole year to read this. I bought it over a year ago and this morning, I decided to finally start it.
Within the first 3-4 pages I was hooked. A couple hours later I accepted the fact that there was no way I was going to get anything done and just spent the day with it until I was done.
Now I have to figure out what to do with myself now that I'm not Jules anymore LOL.
Life-like characters with a plot that's perfectly complex without going overboard. It will take you through a gamut of emotions. Who could ask for more?

Don't Let Go eBook Sharla Lovelace Reviews

I am a little torn about this book. When I thought about writing a review, I knew I had mixed feelings about it and wasn't sure how I would rate it. But I always judge a book by how much it gets me involved, and the emotions it brings forth, because honestly, isn't that why we all read? And that was why I was torn between liking it and not liking it. On the one hand, it did evoke strong emotions, so in that respect it is five stars to me because I couldn't put it down and wanted to keep reading to see what was going to happen between Noah and Jules. But on the other hand, it is a very anxiety filled book from beginning to end and left me feeling negative towards Jules and her giving up her son and how cruel it was to Noah. I couldn't seem to get past that fact and how she gave his son away when he didn't want to. I kept thinking that yes, there are situations where adoption is the best solution. But in her case, she had a loving fiancé and his father wanted to help, so she wasn't alone even if her parents would have shunned her. So to me it was cruel and caused Noah so much pain his whole life that I couldn't forgive her. Because of the negative feelings towards her, I spent the whole book not liking how she had given away one child and was openly having sex with a man she didn't really care about and not being a good role model for her daughter. I was also put off by the fact that through the whole book Noah had a pregnant fiancé and could be happy finally having his own family and raising a kid, even if it wasn't his and Jules being there was once again stopping him from that. But in the end, love does rule and Jules and Noah end up together, but it is at the very end of the book. So I spent the whole book being put off by Jules and feeling sorry for Noah until the very end. So when deciding how to rate this book, I decided on four stars because in the end, whether I like Jules and her decisions or not, the book made me want to keep reading and feeling all of the above emotions and if it can do that, then it deserves a high rating. It also is not the typical romance book you see today with instant love and the couple being together right away with just a few problems along the way. It was an out of the box type romance from what I normally read, interesting, heartfelt, and real. I would definitely recommend reading!
I read "The Reason Is You" by Shara Lovelace and was blown away. Don't Let Go has a lot of the same elements - like a protagonist who is a mid-forties mother with a teenaged daughter. The protagonist isn't really happy with her life and has regrets. It's all a bit depressing really. And while I kept turning the pages and wanting to know what would happen in the story, something was missing for me. I couldn't connect emotionally with the characters. Becca, the daughter, was too extreme on the bitchy teenager side for my liking. And Jules was a tad bit too snarky and immature. That made it hard for me to really, really like her. The secondary characters in the story were fabulous and the overall premise of the book was really good and heart-wrenching. But I didn't bawl my eyes out - hence the 3 stars instead of more. However this book has received a lot of high ratings so it clearly resonated well with many readers. It was still worthwhile and I'm glad I took the time to read it. I just won't be picking it up again in the future.
This is the first book from Ms. Lovelace that I have read. I purchased it several months ago. After reading the first two chapters, I wasn't sure if I could continue at this moment.

I'm going through a minor depression (early retirement, downsizing and moving across the country in the next few weeks.) I wasn't sure if I could handle the emotional story.

Ms. Lovelace has a remarkable way of writing. The story-telling flowed so smoothly. The character development was fantastic. It was a story that I COULDN'T stop reading. Yes, I cried in several spots but the story just grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I had to finish.

In some spots I wished for a duel POV but just reading from Jule's side was funny. It was great to read a story with people in their forties and not just in their twenties finding their second chance at love. Thank you Ms. Lovelace, I can't wait to read more stories.
