When Samantha Adams learns that her grandmother has passed away, she feels little sadness for the woman she can’t even remember. The only thing she knows about her is that she turned her back on her family years before. So it’s a bit of a surprise when a package arrives bearing Samantha's name, containing letters to her and mementos that belonged to her grandmother. She discovers that her grandmother has included her in the will with one caveat.
Growing up in the seedier parts of Boston, Ellis Hudson knows her way around the lowlifes she defends. She fills her life with one night stands, since the woman she loves is straight and completely unavailable. Instead, she settles for best friends. She’s also struggling with her own doubts about her career and what she wants to do with her life.
With nothing more than some letters, a map and a few names, they set out on the road trip of a lifetime. Along the way, they meet different people who knew Samantha’s grandmother. Samantha realizes that each memento is a piece of her grandmother’s memory of those people and she starts to return them. Along the way, she realizes her attraction to Ellis was more than just a drunken thing. The journey also challenges Ellis’ will to remain just friends. Will they take the life lessons that Samantha’s grandmother teaches them and finally follow their hearts?

Well Syd hit this one on the head! It's a great story from many different angles. A story of finding out about Sammantha's long lost grandmother and why she hard to leave. Finding out who Sammantha really is and the feeling she has for her closest friend and finding out that sometimes you have to follow your heart even if the results aren't what you who I'll like! It is told as Sam and her best friend Ellis take a trip to find out about her grandmother who has just passed away and leaves everything to Sam if she'll make this trip to meet her our friends. And along the way find out about her reasons for leaving and why it isn't wrong to be yourself even if it isn't what your family always wants! A very good story and so captivating that I wasn't able to put it down, I thing anyone who has read any of the other books by Syd Parker will really enjoy this one!Product details

This story takes a hateful homophone and slowly shows the stupidity of her beliefs. She made her mother a demon to her granddaughter when she really a warm loving woman.
The middle of the book was repetitive in stating the main character's feelings and what was holding them back. There was even a section that came as across preachy. I would have liked to have read more depth to the characters. I knew more about the grandmother in the end than either of the main characters.
There no surprises here. Everything that happens in this book is predictable from the start, but I say that not really meaning it as a criticism. This is a great story seasoned with bits of history. I enjoyed the slow burn between the two main characters. I though it was pretty cute that everyone could tell they should be together when they themselves were plagued by fear and denial.
My only real critic is one that concerns Lou's attempts to contact Sam. If she so desperately wanted to be a part of Sam's life why not try to contact her when she turned 18? At 18 Samantha would have been free to make her own decisions about her grandmother. I'm reading and thinking " they could have had at least 10 years together. wth?"
I absolutely loved this novel. The only thing I didn't like was my crying at the end. Sorry but you will cry!
There was a lot of angst that got frustrating at times, but the story was good and I could understand it.
Ellis was a lesbian that was in love with her best friend whom she l worked with in Sam's fathers law firm. FUNNY, but Sam was never referred to as straight. Through a month long road trip to discover her lesbian grandmother (not a spoiler because it was too obvious) she finally caved to discover that she needed Ellis.
Won't give away the whole story line, but it was pretty sweet!

The story was great. The history of the Ladies Baseball league was a wonderful part of the book. I felt like there was too much time spent in the characters heads. I would have liked to read more about their experiences rather then their thoughts. Great story overall.
I really enjoyed the story. It was a nice mix of historical references in modern-day romance. I enjoyed the fact that the two main characters continually danced around each other not wanting to admit what they were to each other and finally figured it out. I really enjoyed all the talk about the women's baseball from the 40s and 50s.
Loved the history of the women's baseball league and the parallels between relationships then and now. Sweet love story. A little but too much angst over long term unrequited love and a lot of processing, although the outcome was a good one. I like a good romance but like a bit more spice. Only one actual sex scene and one sided at that. The story seemed to end too suddenly.
